About us
We are a parish community of the Archdiocese
of Sydney, Australia.
Our church grounds are surrounded by the streets of Kimberley Grove,
Dalmeny Avenue, Morley Avenue and Rosebery Avenue, Rosebery.
We have been a parish community since 1949. Read more in Parish
history.
Our parish church is in Kimberley Grove. The presbytery is on the
bottom of the block in Morley Avenue and the Verbum Dei Missionaries'
residence is next to the church and fronting on to Rosebery Avenue.
The Second Vatican Council (1961 to 1965) expressed in its constitution
on the church in the modern world what we, as a parish community,
would regard as our focus and our mission.
We are "interested in one thing only - to carry on the work
of Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, for He came into
the world to bear witness to the truth, to save and not to judge,
to serve and not to be served. At all times the church carries the
responsibility of reading the signs of the times and of interpreting
them in the light of the Gospel" (Gaudium et Spes, 3-4).
As a parish community we call people to the Eucharistic table. We
call everyone. We acknowledge from our own experience that we encounter
Christ most powerfully around the altar of sacrifice, which is the
table of the Eucharist. We share as a caring community our concern
for the needs of those amongst whom we live.
The Sunday Eucharist timetable is 6.00pm (Vigil Mass) and 7.30am
and 9.30am on Sunday. From Tuesday to Friday, Mass is in the church
at 7.00am. On Monday there is a Liturgy of the Word and Communion
Service also at 7.00am.
If you wish to experience what we have as a worshipping community
at Rosebery, come along on a Sunday or weekday and be part of who
we are in Christ.
Our pastor is Father Christopher Sheehy. Father Chris works
in the Matrimonial Tribunal on a full time basis but balances his
work as parish priest with that commitment in town. He can be contacted
on (02)
9663 1183 or on 0418 838 886. Fax: (02)

Our parish is enormously benefited by the presence of the Verbum
Dei Missionaries. They live in their home next to the church
at 74 Rosebery Avenue, Rosebery. They are religious women dedicated
to making the love of Jesus better known. They work with young people,
university students, young married people and space in their home
is made available for anyone wishing to go on retreat or to spend
time alone with Christ. The work of the Missionaries is enhanced
by the pleasant grounds which constitute the church block. The Missionaries
phone number is 9313 7099. Their website is www.verbumdeiaustralia.com
There is an active St Vincent de Paul Conference and contact can
be made through John on 9667 2955.
In many ways there is a great deal of friendship and intimacy in our
parish community because we are relatively small. There are about four
hundred people at Mass on Sunday. People spend time after Mass talking
and relaxing. There is always plenty of parking on the weekends and
this enhances the opportunity for a growing friendship and intimacy
within our worshipping family. |
